As part of our programme of Unlock Magna Carta events, we'll be Liverpool on Saturday 23rd May for a public debate on Magna Carta's legacy and our own clauses for a modern charter for 2015.
We'll look back - at the history of Magna Carta, the first challenge to a king's power from his subjects - and forward - to a new codified constitution for Britain. 800 years on, what can we learn from the story of the barons and King John, and how relevant is the Great Charter to modern democracy?
Stephen Twigg MP, former Shadow Minister for Political and Constitutional Reform, will lead the debate about a written constitution for modern Britain. This will be followed by open discussion on the benefits of a new constitutional settlement. Finally we hope to work together to draw up our new Charter for 2015.
The event is free and open to all. Tea, coffee and refreshments will be provided.
