Unlocked: Magna Carta or Arbroath? Do Scotland and the rest of the UK share a constitutional past - or future?

  • St John's Community Hall Princes St Edinburgh United Kingdom

For the next in our Unlock Magna Carta series, we're in Edinburgh, hoping to answer the question: is Magna Carta even relevant in Scotland, the land of the Declaration of Arbroath? To what extent do Scotland and the rest of the UK share a constitutional history - or future?

Coming directly after a decisive and unpredictable General Election, this debate will seek to chart the next steps in Scottish constitutional and political future, looking back at the Declaration, charting the Independence Referendum and looking ahead to what the future holds for Scotland and the rest of the UK.

Come and join the debate with Professor Charlie Jeffery from the Centre of Constitutional Change, Alistair Stoddart from the Democratic Society, Juliet Swann of Electoral Reform Society Scotland and Adam Ramsay from openDemocracy. The discussion will be chaired by Emma Ritch, Director of Engender and will be followed by an open debate, where we hope to create a new document, expressing the aims and values of Scotland for 2015.

The event is free and open to everyone. Come along, join the debate and help us create a Declaration fresh for 2015!
